A faulty ceiling fan sold by Home Depot has been recalled over blades that have been flying off, according to a new warning.
More than 190,000 of the fans made by Hampton Bay have been purchased this year and 47 incidents of blades detaching were reported, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
At least two of the incidents involved a blade hitting consumers and four involved property damage, the agency said in a Dec. 23 recall notice, which warned consumers to “immediately stop using the fans.”
The agency did not elaborate on the severity of the consumer injuries.
The product in question is Hampton Bay’s 54-inch Mara indoor/outdoor ceiling fan, which is made exclusively for Home Depot and manufactured in China. It retails for $150.
Home Depot did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
But the distributor of the product, King of Fans, said in a statement, “On behalf of King of Fans and Home Depot we apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you. We take pride in the quality of our products and the safety of our customers is our priority.”
