Vinegar has many uses when it comes to cleaning tasks around the home. The common household item is also known to produce brilliant results when used for microwave cleaning. Read on to find out more about this easy cleaning method.

How to clean a microwave with vinegar

Cleaning expert Leslie Reichert shared her tips for cleaning a microwave with Today, and all you’ll need is half a cup of water and half a cup of white vinegar.

You will also need a microwave-safe bowl and a damp sponge or microfibre cloth.

Start by placing the water and vinegar the bowl and put it in the microwave.

Set the microwave to high and let it heat the vinegar mix until it “comes to a rolling boil and the window steams ”.

After allowing the microwave to cool for a few minutes, you can clean off the residual grime.

So give the interior and wipe down with the sponge and cloth.

Ms Reichert adds that you can also give the microwave keypad a light wipe with a cloth slightly dampened with warm and soapy water.

How to clean a microwave with lemons

Like vinegar, lemons are known to be very versatile when it comes to household cleaning tasks.

Online, many people advocate the citrus fruit as a natural cleaner for microwaves too.

You’ll need one cup of water and slices of a citrus fruit, such as lemon, lime or oranges.

Add the water to a microwave-safe bowl and squeeze in the juice from the citrus slices.

Microwave the citrus juice and water mix on high until the mixture boils and steams up the window.

Let it cool for five minutes before opening the door and removing the bowl, before wiping the interior of the microwave clean with a sponge.

You may want to use a specialist microwave cleaner if you’ve noticed your microwave is a bit dirty.

There are a number of products on the market, including steam clean wipes or microwave cleaner sprays.
