Robson Green celebrates his first appearance on Saturday Kitchen

Robson Green is an actor and TV presenter known for his roles in the BBC drama series Casualty, the ITV series Soldier Solider and the ITV crime series Wire in the Blood.

He has also presented several shows including Extreme Fishing, Extreme Fishing Challenge, and Tales from Northumberland.

Robson was born in Hexham, Northumberland but grew up in Dudley, a small mining village near Cramlington.

Robson lives in an old ferryman’s cottage that’s 350 years old in the market town of Hexham – where he was born – in Northumberland.

The home is on the banks of the River Tyne. He previously told Radio Times he “loves” his home because of the surroundings.

He said: “I’ve got Hadrian’s Wall to the north and there are pheasants and deer in the garden every morning.”

Tragically, the property was destroyed in a flood in 2015 which meant many of his personal belongings were washed away and his home was submerged under seven feet of water.

He said: “Everything precious and personal in my life, just washed away. It was very painful, I was devastated.

“Not only were there salmon going down the Tyne that day, my three-piece suite was, too.”

One of the reasons he bought the property was because it enabled him to do his favourite hobby – fly fishing. He was shocked to wake up to floodwater in his house as he had been told the risk of flooding was low at just 0.1 percent.

He told the Mail on Sunday in 2019: “It was the perfect storm. There was a massive amount of rain, a spring tide, and at the same time the Kielder Water Dam had to release 20 cubic metres of water a second to prevent it bursting.

“I’m right on the apex of where all this water met, and a huge surge swelled up straight through my house.”

Since the flood, the property has been restored and flood-proofed and Robson continues living there.

Hexham is home to Hexham House and Sele Park and has a rich history that dates back to the Vikings.

The town is also home to the impressive Hexham Abbey which was built in 674 AD with some of the stones coming from the ruins of Hadrian’s Wall.

House prices in Hexham are reasonable with properties in Hexham having an overall average price of £313,581 over the last year, according to Rightmove.

The majority of sales in Hexham during the last year were detached properties, selling for an average price of £549,378.

Semi-detached properties sold for an average of £255,349, with terraced properties fetching £224,785.

Overall, sold prices in Hexham over the last year were nine percent up on the previous year and 14 percent up on the 2020 peak of £275,563.
