If you're in the market for a new iPhone, but you aren't necessarily bothered about getting the newest model you can make some huge savings.

Ru Bhikha, a mobiles expert at Uswitch, said: "When the price of the new iPhone is lowered, there tends to be a domino effect across its older devices too.

"So if you're a deal seeker, this is definitely the best time for you to look."

Say goodbye to the lightning port

Perhaps the most notable thing to depart from the iPhone 15 is the Lightning port.

This is expected to be replaced by the universal USB-C port.

Most of Apple's products now use the USB-C port, so this should make everything much more compatible.

Apple expected to ditch the steel frame for the iPhone 15

The now famous steel frame of iPhones is expected to be removed on the iPhone 15 Pro models.

This change should pave the way for something even more durable and premium, experts say.

In fact, a new frame is also expected to make this year’s iPhone 15 Pro models lighter by some 10 to 20 grams.

No more gold on the iPhone 15

This one might not be the biggest loss for iPhone users, but the Gold iPhone will reportedly no longer be a color option for this year's model.

Colors we can expect to see instead include Silver, Space Black, Titan Grey, and Dark Blue.

Make sure to tune into today's event to find out more about the iPhone 15.

Apple set to ditch the notch at today's event

Seven years after being introduced to the front of the iPhone X, the notch might be disappearing for good.

This would allow the iPhone 15 to have more front-screen real estate for the Dynamic Island feature.

    Apple Vision Pro price

Apple's Vision Pro is a very high-end product: it's about as hi-tech and pricy as consumer headsets come.

So it's got a fittingly premium price tag of $3,499 – plus tax.

That matches Microsoft's mixed reality rival: the $3,500 HoloLens 2.

But it's significantly more money than most consumer headsets you'll find on the market today.

For comparison, the high-end Meta Quest Pro costs $999.99, and the Meta Quest 3 will set you back $499.

You can still pick up a Meta Quest 2 for $299.99 – and it's an impressive bit of kit.

Sony's PlayStation VR2 will set you back around $549.99.

What is the Apple Vision Pro?

The Vision Pro is Apple's first foray into the world of virtual reality.

The Vision Pro is a mixed reality headset – although it's officially being described as a "spatial computer".

Mixed reality means the headset allows you to see the real world, but also introduces (or fully immerses you in) computer-generated images.

The gadget was announced on June 5, 2023 at Apple's annual WWDC event.

It's the first headset ever created by Apple, and runs on new software called visionOS.

Why is Apple changing the iPhone charger?

Apple is already using USB-C on some devices, like the iPad.

But it isn't changing the iPhone charging cable willingly.

It's because of new EU rules that force all smartphone makers – and other electronics – to use USB-C.

The law is designed to cut down on loads of wasted wires.

But when the plans first came along, Apple said the move "stifles innovation rather than encouraging it".

While the EU's ruling would only apply to EU countries, it doesn't make sense for Apple to build two different types of iPhone – one with USB-C for EU nations, and another with Lightning for the rest of the world.

Last year, Apple executive Greg Joswiak was asked whether the firm would obey the law, to which he said "obviously, we'll have to comply".

So all the signs point towards USB-C arriving on the iPhone 15 models.

Existing iPhones will still be able to use the Lightning cable as normal.

How much does the iPhone 15 cost?

A brand new iPhone will always cost a pretty penny – but just how much are we talking?

There's been rumours of a big price hike being sandwiched in with the launch of iPhone 15 models, and expectations that it will be the priciest Apple smartphone yet.

    The standard iPhone 14 started at £849 / $799 / AU$1399, making its debut in the UK around £150 / $190 / AU$200 more expensive than the iPhone 13.

However, experts think the iPhone 15, which is being unveiled today, could cost as much as $100 more than last year's model.

As such, the iPhone 15 lineup could look like this:

    • iPhone 15: starting from $799
    • iPhone 15 Plus: starting from $899
    • iPhone 15 Pro: starting from $1,099
    • iPhone 15 Pro Max: starting from $1,299

    What is USB-C?

You're probably familiar with USB: a type of connector for your gadgets.

Well USB-C is just another type of USB with a different design for the port and connector.

USB-C dates back to 2014, and is now widely used for charging electronic devices and transferring data.

Since then, USB-C has soared in popularity – is very commonly featured on Android devices.

And today, Apple is set to announce the use of the USB-c on its iPhone devices.

    Which iPhone models use USB-C?

It depends on what you mean.

Currently, no iPhone models accept a USB-C connector in the main charging hole.

However, that's expected to change in September 2023 with the launch of the new iPhone 15.

Gadgets that could be revealed today

    • Apple Watch Ultra 2

What to expect from today's event

The main event will almost certainly be the iPhone 15.

Expect it in four key variants: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Typically we'd expect the iPhone 15 models to become available for pre-order on Friday, September 15.

The official release date would likely fall on Friday, September 22.

But a recent rumour suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro Max could actually go on sale in October due to supply issues.

We're expecting several upgrades for the iPhone 15.

For instance, the handsets are almost certainly going to be fitted with USB-C ports instead of Lightning ports.

That will bring the iPhone in line with other Apple gadgets like the iPad and MacBook.

We're also expecting to see the floating Dynamic Island featured on all models – not just the Pro ones.
