Remove silicone sealant mould in 2 minutes without scrubbing with expert’s tip

Mould and mildew removal technique tested by Express Online

Silicone sealant is found in bathrooms along the length of showers, baths and sinks to stop water from reaching the fixtures.

Its rubbery consistency and constant exposure to water and moisture make it the perfect breeding ground for black mould to grow.

It’s also one of the hardest areas to clean, especially if there is a build-up of black mould over a few months or even years.

Cleaning expert and product development scientist at Astonish, Olivia Young, has shared the “fastest way” to remove mould and mildew from silicone sealants and prevent it from returning so soon.

She told Express.co.uk: “Your bathroom should be a tranquil space where you can escape the stresses of modern life while indulging in a relaxing shower or bath.

“That peaceful serenity can quickly be ruined if mid-bath you spot mould lurking just inches away from you.

“The rubbery consistency of bath and shower sealant, combined with the damp and warm environment in a bathroom, quite simply is a breeding ground for mould.

“Whilst it’s not something you’d want to have in there, it is a common occurrence for millions of households.”

Not only does mould ruin a treasured bathroom’s aesthetics, but if ignored, it can pose serious health problems to those living in the house.

Olivia urged: “When it comes to mould, there’s no messing around – you’ve got to act quickly. Get to work removing it as soon as you spot it, as leaving it will only make the problem worse.”

She claimed that the key to “quickly and effectively” removing mould from the silicone sealant in the bathroom is to use a specialist cleaning product “tried, tested and approved by households” across the country.

She said: “A few sprays of the Mould & Mildew Blaster will remove mould stains in a matter of minutes

“Simply spray, leave for two to three minutes and then wipe clean without the need for scrubbing.”

The expert explained that this specialist cleaner is made with an active formula, which means “not only does it tackle mould then and there”, it also “prevents the return of any mould or mildew” for months – bringing a sense of calmness back to bathrooms.

Another way households can prevent the mould from returning is to control the moisture that sits in their bathrooms.

This means ensuring the area is adequately ventilated and, if possible, has access to natural light.

Black mould growth in silicone sealant cannot always be avoided, however, minimising the humidity levels and moisture build-up can lower the chances significantly.
