WhatsApp to stop working on some Android models forever from next week – see if your device is on ‘kill list’ | The Sun

META has plans to stop WhatsApp support for older Android operating system versions.

This means the popular messaging app will stop working on certain Galaxy models later this month.

This is something WhatsApp does periodically as it updates its features and interface system.

"To choose what to stop supporting, every year we, like other technology companies, look at which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest number of people still using them," WhatsApp explained.

"These devices also might not have the latest security updates or might lack the functionality required to run WhatsApp," it added.

Specifically, WhatsApp will stop support for Android 5.0 and older versions starting on October 24.

It's important to note that this change will affect any Android device still running version 5.0 Lollipop or older – and not just Samsung phones.

Some popular models include the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3.

Meanwhile, models like the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 are safe, for now.

WhatsApp said that before they stop supporting an operating system, they notify users directly in WhatsApp.
